STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) 'Stratford, Sept. IS. Tlie A. and P. Association are.-to be congratulated on their decision at Saturday's meeting to hand over the whole of the side shows to the local Patriotic Committee for the Sick and Wounded Soldiers Fund. _ Other Associations in Taranqki may. well emulate the local Association's action, and a good round sum would be raised, which would otherwise go into the pockets of a few outside showmen. The local Patriotic Committee will, no dou'bt, accept the Association's, generous od'er, and workers will be required to carry out the scheme. It will mean a lot of hard work, and everyone could lighten the labors of the Patriotic Committee toy offering their services to assist the scheme.

STRATFORD FARMERS' UNION. A meeting of the recently formed Farmers' Union wan held 011' Saturday, Mr. R. Mclv. Morison being voted to the chair. A largo number of names of intending members were handed in, and it is anticC pitted that the branch will have a larse membership. The annual subscription was fixed at 10s Cd. Mr. Buckcridge (Eltham) addressed the meeting 011 the"bonofits of the Union, and promised the meeting al! the support and assistance he could give. Messrs W. B. Fletcher and B. Orr also spoke of the good to the district of a Fanners' Union. Mr. R H. Linncll was appointed secretary and treasurer. It was decided to hold the meetings of the Union on the last Saturday in each month. 1 GENERAL. Mr. H. C. North received advice of the death of his father, .Air. 11. North, of the old firm of North and Scoullar, l of Duncdin. Sir. North left by the mail train this morning. The Stratford contingent of"the 21st Reinforcements left by the mail train for tlie training camp tiiis morning. Mesdamcs Boon and ft. M. Good, 011 behalf of the Ladies' .Patriotic Committee, presented each man with a housewife and holdall before entraining. Adjutant Cook, of the Salvation Army, gave the men a most impressive address, and wished them God-speed and a safe return. There was a big crowd present to farewell the hoys.
