Sir Ernest Sliaekleton cabled horti Chili stating (hat he is hastening the settlement of matters connected with tht Weddel Sea party, in order to reach Australia n& soon as possible. It is pointed out here that thfi Australian and New Zealand Governments are generously repairing and re-fitting the. Aurora. It is thought inadvisable to despatch! _ the Aurora before the middle of Decernher at the earliest, judging from tha experience of previous expeditions. Sir E. Sliaekleton feels the keenest personal responsibility for the 'Ross Islanders. It is recalled that in one o£ his earliest letters after the first return from Elephant Island he said he would! not rest content until he had done every, thing possible to save the marooned men of both .parties.
