RECRUITING.

1 ' To the Editor. Sir, —I was very surprised to receive a typed letter from the secretary of th>. Taranaki County Council Recruiting Committee exhorting me in pathetic terms to enrol for the service of my Country. Now, Sir, in common decency, I think before he sent that notice to me there are one or two things he mighthave done:—(1) Considered whether, as a man with the intense patriotism he claims, he, should not have enlisted himself, because a great number of married men with heavier domestic and other responsibilities than he have set him the example; and (2) taken into consideration the fact that I enlisted in Juno, travelled to Featherston on August 21, and was rejected as medically unfit by the officer M.S.C. After offering my services and sufferin;; loss of time »nd other inconveniences, I think it a most peculiar position to be placed in to be badgered by one who is keeping safely at home in a fat billet and taking every care, that others may do the fighting and dangerous portion of the work oi defence at the dictation of these "patriots." A perusal of > the daily paper would have shown him the facts I mention, and a man of his shrewd calibre should have been aware of them.—l am. etc., N. P. CURD. Durham road, September 15,
