REPORTED CAPTURE OF HALICZ. AKTER TWELVE DAYS' FIGHTING. Received Sept. IC, 1.20 a.ia. Now Vork, Sept. 15. Hie Petrograd correspondent of the Chicago Daily Xews cables that General Chei'batchev's army lias captured Halicz, after twelve clays' fighting. The report adds: The Russians steadily shelled Halicz at short range and fired a portion of the town. Many prisoners were taken, including Turks. The report is unconfirmed from other sources. Awards in connection with the Jutland fight are announced in the Gazette. The Order of Merit has been bestowed on Admiral Jellicoe. Arising out of the recommendations in Admiral Jollicoc's supplementary despatches, there are a large number of \lionors conferred, which include a Knight Grand Cross of the Bath (G.C.8.) for Admiral Eeatty, Knight Commandership of the Bath, (K.C.8.) for Rear-Admirals Evan Thomas and Fakenham, also, posthumously, for Admirals Arbuthnot»and Hood." Thirty-three Companions of the Bath (C.8.) are conferred on officers, including Rear-Admirals Ernest Gaunt, Duff, Lcveson, Kennedy, Cetlme, Seymour, and Nicholson, The Knight Grand Cross of St. Michael and St. George is conferred on Vice-Admiral Burney, and Commanderships of the same Order' on Viee-Ad-mirala Sir Thos. Jerram, Sir Frederick Sturdee, and Rear-Admiral Madden. Fourty-two Distinguished Service Orders and thirteen Distinguished SerI vice Crosses, have been conferred, the recipients including the Rev. Anthony Pollen, Catholic Chaplain, who carried |.a burned man from the deck, though Beverely burnt. Admiral Beatty's captains were largely rewarded. Captain Chatfleld, of the Lion, was made a Companion of St Michael and St. George; Captain Cowan, of the Princess Royal, Captain Pelly, oi the Tiger, Captain Hcatonellis of the Inflexible and Captain Green, who commanded and fought with the New Zealand, showing great skill and gallantry; also three light cruisers captains, receive the Companionship of the Bath. Captain Phillpotts receives the Companionship of the Bath for! splendidly handling the battleship after her steering gear had broken down, also when nearing the Firth of Forth, when much damaged, three attacked the Warspite, but Captain Phillpotts brilliantly brought the ship to port safely. Awards of two Victoria Crosses are made to Commander Edward Bingham, bf the destroyer Nestor, now a prisoner of war, for gallantry in leading the division against destroyers,. and then the battle cruisers. Finally he sighted the battle fleet, and though only followed by the Nicator, the sole remaining destroyer in his division, lie closed within three thousand yards; with dauntless courage, in order to fire Jiis torpedoes. The Nestor and Nicator sustained the concentrated fire of the High Sea Fleets and secondary batteries. The Nestor subsequently sank. Major Francis Harvey, of the Marines, receives the Victoria Cross. Although mortally wounded, and almost the sole Biirvivor after a shell had exploded in the gun house, he, with great presence of mind, ordered the magazines to be flooded, thus saving the ship.
