Mr. Sergei recently delivered an address here on "One cow per acre," his remarks on the analysis of local soils being very valuable and being, in the opinion of some of his hearers, the most' interesting part of his address. He strongly advised local turnip growing competitions such as they have at Toko, and in the discussion that followed on early ploughing 'for 'turnips, Mr. M. Fleming said that his experience, was against this, as the ground so treated was more liable to fly attacks. ' This was corroborated by other moving a vote of thanks to Mr. Sergei, Mr. W. R. Wright said that the hints be had. got that night on the whitt turnip and grass seed sowing were far in excess of any t'.s.d. that his share of Cape Kgmont Factory's contribution to the scheme came to. Seconded 'by Mr. M. Fleming and carried. The attendance was not as large as should have been, but It is not generally known that there are so many farmers in the district who have finished their education and who have -nothing to learn.
The new concrete bridge here is rapidly approaching completion and people driving over it had better "go-slow" it' they do not want an introduction to the S.M. at- Opdriake. Mrs. Pope, our local pc stmistress, is 011 holiday leave, and Miss Wright, the Rahotu postmistress, is relieving. The. factory started cheese-making on Monday.
KAPOXGA.

On Monday evening a farewell social was tendered to Corporal Roylston Grace, of the 18th Reinforcements, at the hall, Kaponga. There was a large attendance of residents, and an enjoyable time was spent. During the evening a presentation was made, tho Patriotic Society giving a wristlet watch, and the residents a pair of military gloves. The presentation was made by the Rev. 0. M. Stent?, who spoke of the sterling qualities of the guest of the evening, his good record at school, also at Wangaiuii Collegiate .School, where lie was educated, and now he was going at duty's call to light for King and country. He 'wished him the best of luck, and looked forward to the time when they would all welcome him and his comrades back again. Mr Stent also spoke of tile, esteem in which his .parents were held. Conporal Grace, in returning thanks for flie gifts, said he would always remember his many friends at Kaponga while doing his bit on the other side.
