SLY-GROG CASES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, September 8. In the sly-grog cases, the charge against Albert Weeks, of selling liquor, was withdrawn. He was further charged with being the occupier of premises wherein was found a quantity of whisky. This tvas also dismissed, the evidence showing that Robert Pascoe, iate occupier of the premises, wan the owner of the liquor, whic'h he used for illicit trading. Pascoe admitted selling the liquor, and was lined .€25, in default three months' imprisonment. SOLDIER SHOT IN A BRAWL. • Auckland, Sept. 9. John Brown, a garage caretaker, aged 50, was arrested at midnight on a charge of attempted murder of a returned soldier named Francis Kelly. The circumstances show that Kelly and a taxidriver went to the garage about 11.30, when an altercation arose over their behaviour, with the result that Brown fired a Winchester rifle to frighten them away. Kelh was wounded in the abdomen. Brown went to the police and was arrested. Kelly's wound is not yet showing serious symptoms. Brown was remanded ..-. next Thursday.
