Tne Maitai which arrived at Wellington yesterday, from San Francisco, via Papeete, brought IQOC bags of English and American mails, one of the largest mails every brought by a direct 'Frisco liner' Of the total number of bags only some 47 bags are for Australian States. The Wanganui Chronicle reports a strange coincidence in connection with the wreck of the Stormbird. In 181)1, the Stormbird went ashore on Wanganui breakwater, and was towed off by the Moa. A few years' ago the Moa "so burned to the water's edge and sai.'k within sight of the breakwater, and :io« the Stormbird has gone to her doom within a few hundred yards of where she previously struck.
