RED CROSS FUND.
RES/POXSE FROM TIKORANGI' Residents of tlio Tikorangi district made a splendid response last night, when a ;oncert and sale of goods ww held in aid of tlie Red Cross Fund. A strong committee, comprising Messrs L, Faull (chairman), J. H. Allen, ,1. lye, P. Scrimgeour, R. Rolfe, T. MeKenzie V and H. assisted by un energetic ladies' committee, bad worked hard in canvassing the district, and a miscellaneous assortment of good tilings showed that they did not appekl in vain. This was further evidenced last night, when it is expected, over £45 will be obtained. The 'proceedings opened with a concert, Mr. L. Faull presiding. An excellent programme was submitted, performers journeying from Waitara and! New Plymouth to assist. The large audience that assembled, despite the.fact that another entertainment was being held at Waitara, manifested their apprsciation generously. Mr. J. Lovell, the ipopulai ard versatile comedian, was allowed no peace until be responded to an encore. ' The programme submitted was:—Pianoforte solo, MIS 3 McKenzie; comic song, ''Little Willie," Mr. Fox; Song, w Tb< Sergeant of the Line," Mr. Sand ford; monologue, "Spotty," Mis# (Rowlands; song, "The Sleei*ig Camp," Mr. Whytjej recitation, "Stuttering .Tim." Mr. Goldsworthy; song, "The Heroes of the Dsr- ' dandles," Mr. Asher; comic song, "That's Mary Ann," Mr. J. Lovell; comic song, "Picalili," Mr. Fox; song, "Stonecrusher Jack," Mr. Sandford; song, "The Gallants of England." Mr. Whytej recitation, "L.isca," Mr. Golds worthy; song, "We'll look after you," Mr. '.Ashef; comic song, "A .lob Lot," Mr. J. Lovell, who gave in response to ail undeniabla encore, "A Hard-boiled Egg." Mr. Mi Fowler was accompanist. Mr. Chas. Fnirbrother then rapidly extracted patriotic bids for the numerous good things submitted, all of which fetched much over face value, anS as a result £2li 2s Ud was gathered in. Guessing competitions also assisted the fund. A cake presented by Mrs. J. McIvenzic realised £2 10s, being won by Mr. G. Mallet. A cushion, donated by Miss Rose Jury, realised £3 15s, the winner being Mrs. G. Foreman. Flowers and lollies sold by the younger ■ boys and girls realised £2 ss, and with donations .£2 l»s, and door money £6, brought the total to £44 19s Ud, while there may be a little further to add. The committee should indeed feel gratified with the success achieved. After ( a bountiful supper had been duly appreciated, the hall was cleared for dancing, which was kept up for an hour or two to excellent music provided by Mr. M. Fowler, Mr. A. Woods making u capital M.C. During the evening, the , chairman thanked all, ind especially the performers from Mew Plymouth and Waitnra, who had assisted to make the appeal so successful.
