A SUGGESTION.

To tlio Editor. Sir, —As the election of the Xew Plymonth Patriotic Committee for the ensiling year tikes place next 'week, it is not likely that it will consist of as many members as there are at present. It would respectfully suggest that the Committee recognise in a small way the zealous and indefatigable. Vay in which the Ladies' Patriotic Committees have I over since the war broke out worked unceasingly, week in and week out, to alleviate the sufferings of our soldiers who arc upholding our Empire's cause so valiantly. The Ladies' Patriotic Committee, under the able direction of our worthy Mayoress, are toiling on day alter (lay, working long hours, giving up all pleasure and recreation, stitching and sewing, scheming and devising ways and means to supply the needful to carry on their noble work. Another branch ol the New Plymouth ladies' patriotism is the Red Cross Market that has been carried 011 every week with such pronounced success. Considerably over £IOOO has been raised by their unceasing efforts during the last "12 months. A great many of us would liave ridiculed the idea three years ago that these ladies would be selling cabbages, cheese, jam, pumpkins, potatoes, etc. Personally, I do not think that the services rendered by these ladies liave been appreciated by the Men's Patriotic Committee as much as it might have been, and I 'believe more encouragement should liave been given them by members identifying themselves more with their enterprises. I am coming now to the heading of this letter. There are quite a number of gentlemen on the present Patriotic Committee who are owners of motor cars. The ladies that I have referred to would, I believe, thoroughly enjoy a motor drive in the country one line day, and undoubtedly they deserve it, and it would break the tedious monotony of toiling on, out in the fresh and beautiful country air. It might be thought that it is all very well for me to make this suggestion, because i have not got a motor car, "but if this suggestion is adopted I will provide one for the day if necessary—l am etc., J. K. lIILL.
