It is silted the crop will not meet the world's requirements. It is opined the situation has developed into a huge corner. The American planters are in •i position to lietate terms. THE MITCHELL ESTATE. Melbourne, Sept. 4. The sum of £20,00-2 has been paid in probate on the estate of Mr. Mitchell, father of Madame Melba. MOTOR-CAR FATALITY, Sydney, Sept. 3. A motor-car, while boarding a ferry steamer at Stockton, got out of control and pushed a sulky overboard and itself followed, .with its occupants. In the sulky were Edward Dyer, his wife and infant, who were drowned. The occupants of ihe motor were rescuei) STRIKE SETTLED. Washington, Sept. 3. The Senate passed the Bill for eight hours' work on railways by 43 votes to 28, and the strike order has been rescinded. LIQUOR PROHIBITED. Sydney, Sept. A proclamation prohibits the sale of liquor for consumption off the premises, within a five miles radius of Liverpool cainp. WANTED FOR SERVICE ABROAD. Sydney, Sept. 4. An order has been issued that physically fit men employed on home service are requiied for service abroad UNIFICATION OF TRADES UNIONS. Sydney, September 3. !A'Congress, representing forty unions, at the Trades Hall affirmed the principle of one big union.
