RETURNED INVALIDS. ARRIVAL OF THE ARAWA MEDICAL OFFICER'S REPORT. j Auckland, Sept. 4. The Arawa, with returned wounded and invalided soldiers on board, arrived at 4.M 011 Sunday afternoon. The relumed men were accorded an enthusiastic reception a? they proceeded from the steamer to a large shed on the wharf. They were formally weloowd by the Minister of Defence and tho Mayoi. Major Hendersoi acknowledged the cordial welcome, and said theii only regret was that Jiey had not seen the finish of hostilities. The men looked forward to returning for that purpose. The invalided men living south were to depart by the noon express to-day. The voyage had pmyd Beneficial to the health of all the returned soldiers, who, with one exceptieii, were able to walk off the Arawa without assistanre. Dr Marshall Mac Donald, of Dunedin, who for the past ycai has occupied the position of medical major with the French forces, has returned toy tii<; Arawa as medical officer. He reported that the health of the officers and men throughout the voyage was excellent, there being only one cot case. A Nim Islander was suffering from tuberculosis shortly after the commencement of the voyage and one contracted measles. The route taken by the Arawa was via Capetown and Hobart. At each place th.? returning men were treated very hospitably. The officers who returned by ill'; Arawa were: Major P. B. Henderson, Major M. Wellington, Sept. 4. The Governor has received a telegram to the effect tliat the hospital ship Marama, left the United Kingdom on August 31, carrying Australians Ift officers and 321 men; New Zealandors 15 officers and 140 men; South Africans, 2 men. The vessel is due to arrive in New Zealand about October 20th. THE WAR LOAN. OVER TEN MILLIONS SUBSCRIBED. Wellington, Sept. 4. In round figures, £10,250,000 has been subscribed to the war loan to date, according to Mr. Campbell, Secretary to the Treasury. Of this amount £700,000 is in loan certificates, and the balance in bonds. The money is still coming in freely for certificates, the issue whereof continues till the end of the year. NEW REGULATIONS. AVellington, Sept. 4. A Gazette to-night contains an Order-in-Council whereunder provision is made for an attorney, :gent, trustee, executor, or administrator, !>eing a member ot the Expeditionary Force, absent from the Dominion on the King's Service, to delegate his powers and duties to the Public Trustee. Further Orders-in-Council prohibit the export of platinium and wattle bark.
