WITH reference to the War Regulations issxied on the 24th July last, s.nd to the advertisement of sth August in connection with the same, it has been found advisable to make certain al(erations, and the following statement now explains the position. It will be noticed that there i s not now necessity to obtain licenses to trade with fin ! Japan or France. (a.) Licenses are required to import foods into New Zealand from all ;ountries except Britain, British Possessions, France, Japan, and the United States. (b.) A license must be obtained from the Comptroller of Customs, before the goods are ordered, for each firm with whom it L' desired to trade. (c.) Where goods are ordered through 3 buying agent in the United Kingdom who is given discretionary power as to the sources of supply, and irrespective nf whether the suppliers' invoice is to be ultimately sent along with his own .invoice to New Zealand or not, there will be no necessity tc obtain a license in New Zealand provided that the agent le invoice to be sent to Nc\v Zeaiuiiu .iscd and approved at tlie office of the High Commissioner in London. (.1.) It should be clearly understood lhat it is only in cases covered by the preceding clause that invoices should be submitted to the High Commissioner, and that wbenevei the name of the able supplier is known to the New /.t-iuand importer, a license must be obtained.
