Inspector Huge will arrive in New Plymouth this evening, and to-morrow lie' will inspect the New Plymouth and ii'itzroy Fire Brigades. The loath of Mi Johr Handley, of St. John's Hill, and erstwhile of Okelm, which occurred yesterday (reports the Wangamii Chronicle) makes another irreparable gap in the fast-dwindling ranks of the pioneers of this district. The deceased gentleman, who was one of the best known settlers on the coast was '.15 years of age. Mr. ({. A. Robbie, Headmaster of the Patea District High School, who left for the front last yeai as QM.S. in the Bth Reinforcements, has b?e-n recommended for a commission in the Imperial Army, and is at present in camp near Salisbury Plain. Prior to this he was acting as gas specialist to his company in Flanders, lecturing to the N.CO.'s on the best means of combating gas attacks.
