(From Our Own Correspondent.) At the S.M. Court on Friday the following cases were dealt with:— For allowing stock to wander in the borough the following were convicted with costs 7s in each case: F. W. Scott, W. Lighti'oot, J. Sutherland, J. Rowan, W, Crozicr, and J. Hopkinson. Two youths were charged with the theft of three sheep-skins, and were convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within six months if called on, and to refund the price obtained for the skins, namely, ;Cl.

For failing to attend drill, 0. S. Kindrick was fined us and costs 7s. R. J. Byrne v. A. K. Forbes, claim £2l 10.5; judgment for plaintiff with costs £2 lis. A. Laing v. 11. Byrne, £lO Gs; judgment for plaintiff with costs 30s Gd. In the ease. Tu'blic Trustee and R. J. Swan v. R. Branch, for possession of motor car, or in lieu £OS and £j damages, the Magistrate reserved his decision. It appeared that Branch bought' the motor :ar, which was the property of Messrs Chamney and Swan (Mr. CJianmey now deceased), through an agent, «vlio was supposed to have re* ceived instructions from the Public Trustee to offer the car for sale. The Trustee's argument vas that he did not give the agent instructions to offer the car. and he himself effected a sale to another man a day or two after the sale to Branch by the agent. In each case the ear was sold at £ll7 10s. The Red Cross social on Friday even ing was another success. The fund benefits to the extent of £l2 Ss as the rcI suit. The euchre prizes were won by Mrs. R. Davis 1 and Mrs. 11. Cotter 2 in the ladies' competition, and Mrs. Cramer (who took,the place of a man) 1 and Mr. Heatley 2 in the men's. The floor was in very good order, and Miss Curd Lnd Mr. Stockman supplied first-class music, whilst the duties of M.C. were successfully carried out by M. de Launay. \ On Sa.u'rday the Red Cross Mart was •oeked and run by the Kaimata residents. A highly satisfactory day resulted, the takings amounting to about C-'j Mr lames Rurwell, Giddy and T. ■•' Id. junv. pre-Vd, and the result speaks ■.veil for their efforts in the art of selling.
