The deaths from meningitis for the year ended June totalled 480, ol which 113 were in the June quarter. IMPECUNIOUS PRINCESS ARRESTED. New York, August 31. The Times' Berlin correspondent says that, Munich has provided a high society scandal. Princess Louise, formerly of Belgium, who has been living in the most expensive style with her companion, von Mattachich, an Austrian officer, has been arrested on a. charge of fraudulently obtaining money. It has been known that the Princess has been impecunious. Von Mattachich has long figured in scandals irvolving the Princess, notably in the incident eight years ago when he fought a duel with the Prince of Coburg. MURDERER SENTENCED TO DEATH. ■ Sydney, Sept. 1. Edward Staincr has been sentenced to death for the murder of Chinamen on April 22. (Staincr, in a mask, walked into .1 Chinese house at Auburn and shot and wounded three Cliinese before robbing them.) PANAMA CANAL REGULATIONS. Washington, August 31.
