RUSSIA'S NEW SPIRIT.

ENGLISH BISHOP'S GLOWING TRIBUTE THERETO, Router's representative lists liad an interview with Dr. Bury, Bishop of North and . Central Europe, who has just returned to England from Russia. He Avas at Moscow on the occasion of the celebration of Empire Day. and visited the fleet in the Baltic. His visit confirmed him in the belief that the Russian and British people are specially fitted to get on with one another, and that this union is not merely for the purposes of the war, .but for the groat work which both have to perform in common for the world at large. "I wish," he said, "to emphasise in the most absolute manner, the entire and unwavering confidence of Russia and the Russians in their British Ally. I 'was with- the 1 Russian naval commander in the Baltic when he received the first news—not too reassuring—of the Jutland fight. His attitude was one of serene confidence, and he said to me: 'You can stand losses, hut Germany cannot.' The scene at Moscow will never fade from my memory. I attended in the Y'uspensky a most impressive and magnificent service, and, as directed, I was present in full robes, and carrying my staff. I cannot attempt to describe the way in which I Was honored at that service—embraced before the whole cathedral by the. Metropolitan when he was fully vested, taken to the altar and placed beside 1 him while lie celebrat:..l. asked to share with the Moscow chapkin who accompanied me his ceremonial breaking of his fast when his actur.l Communion was over, and directed to walk immediately behind him and before all the dignitaries in their magnificent •'estments and jewelled crowns as we left the altar for the final service near the entrance. The Metropolitan was already a friend, but I know all these overwhelming attentions were offered to me as representing in the eyes of those present the Church and nationality of their Allies. When wo came out to our carriage there was a great crowd outside, and they soon isurrounded me —officers, policemen, poor people, children; gentlemen, 'Workmen, ladies, women—'to have the English hishop'ij blessing.' This they requested by extending their hands, crossed one over the other, to receive one's hands, upon which they press their lips. The pressure from without was so great that at one time I thought we should be trodden under, foot, and when we succeeded in getting into our carriage we tad to move slowly away, while through the opeu windows I blessed beseeching, wistful-looking crowds. I have never scon, or expected to see, such, a scene in my life." On June 4, at Rcval, the Bishop conducted services on a Russian battleship. "The Russian authorities," said the Bishop in conclusion, "showed me every consideration to the last, and at Reval the Admiral summoned a Russian torpedo boat, and 011 its deck I said 'Goodbye' to Russia, after one of the most memorable visits I have ever paid to any country."
