LIVE BIRD MATCHES. (From Our Own Correspondent.)' Stratford, Yesterday. Official—President, A Stewart; executive, Messrs. F. Whittle, H. Harrison, Hugh Campbell, A. Nelson (Stratford), J. Wheeler and E. J. Kivuckey (Eltliam), W, J. Hamblyn, A. Lineliara. and J. Carter (Midhirst); handicapper, T. H. James (Wanganui); referee, 11. Woolsen (Eltham); secretary, C. L. Grant. The Stratford Gun Club held their big shoot on the A. and P. Association's Grornds on Wednesday, when there was a fair attendance of enthusiasts. The committee had all the arrangements well in band, and the secretary (Mr. C. L. Grar.t), had a busy day attending to the various wants of the competitors. Mr. A. {Stewart (president), welcomed the visiting shootists. . Out ..of 70 nominations, only 36 accepted, and some good shooting resulted. Messrs. J. Allen (Tarangamutu), J. A. Wheeler (Eltham), and A. Lineham (Toko), killing 14 birds each divided the Ist, 2nd, and 3rd prize money ( £92). whilst Messrs. F. Whittle. Wildman, Healey, A. Nelson, H. Campbell, and Q. Harris, with thirteen birds, divided the fourth prize (£8). PIGEON MATCH.
SWEEPSTAKE INVENT. i i' £1 sweepstake (first miss out) was find after the big shoot. Thirty-six entered, but after a lengthy contest, the supply of birds gave out,, and ten competitors' (Messrs. R. Knuckey, 11. Harrison, Hedloy, MeNally, Tuek, Mills, Fowler, Marsh. Lineham. and Coleman), divided the money. Before dispersing, Mr. Herb. Harrison, on' behalf of the Gun Club, presented Mr. James with a travelling rug as a mark of appreciation for his work of handicapping and for his assistance goneir.lly. He wished to specially mention the work of Mr. James' dogs. Their work in retrieving birds in itself was a good day's outing for any sportsman. Mr. Tames briefly replied. Cheers for the visitors and for the Gun Club ended a delightful shootists' day.
