HEALTH OF THE TOW.
To the Editor. Sir, —May I be allowed a ntue space in ■which to complain of the nauseous smells that arise from the two or three waterways that percolate under and throug'h the town? During the p«st two days the stench from the Huatoki at several points, but more especially at the beach, has at times been overpowering, and the stream that runs through tiie Theatre Eoyal block, tinder the Grand Central, and joins the Huatoki, has also been responsible for much noxiousness. Is it not time the Borough Council dealt drastically with' an evil which, if not remedied before the warm summer months come on, is likely to cause serious epidemics and besmirch t'he fair fame of our town as a healthy seaside risort? In all seriousness, may I ask councillors and council inspectors to personally and closely examine these streams, as apparently it will only be by ocular and na.sal evidence that they be convinced there is a serious menace to the health of the residents if the present state of affairs is allowed to continue.—l am, etc., AXTI-FEVEK. New Plymouth, August 2S.
