WESTERN ATTACK.
LINKED UP. BRITISH AND FRENCH PROGRESS. London, August 25. Sir Douglas Haig reports:—We have joined up with the French, who made important progress yesterday at Maurepas, where they advanced several hundred yards astride the Longueval-Flers road. ' There was hard fighting east and north-east of Delville Wood. We captured trenches south of Thiepval, and made a cross salient at Leipzig of seven Vundred yards. Paris, August 25. A communique says: —We consolidated the ground conquered north-east of Maurepas. There is livey artillery fire j between the Avre and the Aisne. Both artilleries are active at the Thiaumont I Work. Our lire completely checked an attempt against Fleury. IMPORTANT CONFERENCE.' I - ANGLO-FRENCH AGREEMENT. [ London, August 25. Official.—The English and French Governments yesterday conferred at Calais and came to a complete agreement on all subjects considered. An arrangement was concluded regarding payments aboard for the maintenance of exchange between England and France. GERMAN ADMIT LOSSES! London, August 25. Berlin officially admits Allied gains north of Ovillers, also at Longueval, Delville Wood and Maurepas. It adds that on the 23rd our airships attacked a fortress at London.
