HOSTILITY TO CONSCRIPTION Sydney, August 23. : The Labor Council adopted a resolution, by 06 votes to 30, reaffirming hostility to conscription, also a resolution condemning the speeches of Mr. Holman and the Lord Mayor (Mr. Meagher), at the recent Town Hall reception to Mr. Hughes, in which they declared their readiness to support Mi. Hughes, whatever his decision. It was contended that Messrs Holman and Meagher did not express the view's of the workers in general. Several of the opponents of the motion declared in favor of conscription if it was considered necessary to win *.he war, and claimed that all the trade unions were not against conscription. Melbourne, August 25. At an important Federal Labor Caucus meeting, Mr. Hughes reported the result of 'his mission to England. The caucus resumes its sitting to-day, and conscription is one of the issues to be discussed. The country is anxiously awaiting the result. GERMAN-BORN LEGISLATOR. South Australian member, and a native of Germany, attending the Federal caucus, the Argus drew attention to the possibility of his voting on questions deciding the war policy of the Commonwealth, and added that, though no suggostiou was made regarding his loyalty, there .'ould be no doubt as to tin impropriety of Mr. Dankcl speaking and voting on measures for the prosecution of the war against his native country. The caucus resolved to adopt the executive's recommendation to admit Dankcl, and have invited him to attend. A UNITED FRONT TO THE ENEMY. Received August 25, 7.10 p.m. Sydney, August 23. Speaking at St. Kilda, the Hon. Joseph Cook .affirmed the readiness of the Liberal Party to follow Mr. Hughes (Prime Minister) in. any action to make the best of the united force in the Commonwealth.
