(From Our Own Correspondent) Stratford, August 20. The A. and P. Association 'held a successful working bee on the show grounds yesterday. Fourteen members put in a real good day';, work, and the Association wishes to thank those who so readily gave their assistance. An accident occurred to Mr. Dan Favier yesterday, on Denbigh lload. The Stratford Auzae Minstrels gave a performance at Kaponga last evening, ito a good house, livery item was well received, and the Sailors' Fund should benefit to a considerable extent. The Minstrels are giving 8 performance at Ngaere on Tuesday evening, for the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. The pol) for the electric light loan and the election of one councillor took place to-day. Very little interest was taken by the ratepayers, only one-third of those on the ioll taking the trouble to exercise theii votes. The result of the electric light poll was: For the proposal. 317; against, 73; informal, 4. The proposal was therefoie carried, and the electrical supply will pass under municipal control in October next. For the election of one councillor the result was: C. B. Walsh 274, C. Smith lull, S. Sharp 75. informal 7. The throe candidates addressed the ratepayers after the dictation of the poll.
