SUCCESSFUL OFFENSIVE. CARRY STRONG POSITION. Rome. August 23. A communique says: The Austrians Intensely bombarded the bottom of the Astico Valley. After an effective artillery preparation our Alpini detachments carried strong positions in tihe Tofana area, inflicting heavy losses. Berne, August 23. General Reidel, the Austrian commander at Gorizia, and two colonels have been court-martialled for their absence on a pleasure trip during their first 48 jjoura of the Italian attack.
