THE EMPIRE.
"DAVID HARUM." AN EXCEPTIONALLY FINE PRODUCTION. SUPPORTED BY AN OFFICIAL BRITISH WAR FILM. The current programme at the Empire screened for the first time last evening, contains several eM-ellent films, all of which are well up to the standard maintained at this theatre. The opening film is Pathe's "Topical Giazcttc," illustrating the presentation of Distinguished Conduct Medals to New Zealanders by General Birdwood. A scenic picture illustrating river life near Paris is a fine colored film, and depicts many beautiful scenes on the river Seine, where the Germans were held up by General Joffre. Another fine picture gives scenes on the battlefield of Neuvc Chappelle, while the humorous element of the evening is supplid by an Edison production. The leading feature of the programme is e picture portrayal of the well-known story, "David Harum," by Edward Westcott. The happy characters of David Harum, who has a heart of gold, and the two young people, Mary and John, whom he unwittingly brings together and makes happy for life, were very naturally portrayed, while the charactei of David's sister, whom everyone loves, was also very good. The production is by the Famous Players' Company, which, is quite a sufficient guarantee of its merit. A fine musical programme was rendered by the Empire Symphony Orchestra. "David Harum" and the full supporting programme will be screened at St. John's flail, Waitara, to-morrow night.
