GERMAN PLEDGES. Washington, August 20. Mr. Lansing announced that official inquiries have contradicted European reports that Germany is violating her pledges. TO DOMINATE DYE-MAKING. New York, August 20. The dye-makers' periodical publishes details of a new organisation in Berlin, a vast trust with a hundred million dollars capital for the purpose of stamping out the newly started dye industry in the United States. The German Government is fostering the trust, which is already in operation and earning large dividends despite the war. FINANCING GERMAN PLOTS. London, August 20. The New York Times published the text of four jumbled letters by a prominent German agent sent from Berlin which, when pieced together, showed a request for a fund of 100.000 to 500,000 dollars for the purpose of financing new plots here. The letters comprise a new code, the first words of the four letters forming complete sense, then the second words, and so on. The writer said that the other plots had been badly bungled and called Count von Be*";'. a pliant diplomat of no- value. NORMAN ANGELL. deceived August 22, 1 a.m. New York, August 21. Berlin wireless reports that Britain has sentenced Norman Angcll to 18 months' imprisonment because lie declined to partake in the war. The report is not confirmed in other sources. danishTvestlndies New York, August 18. It is believed the United States is pressing for the purchase of the Danish West Indies because America fears the islands might be ceded to aiiothei' Power after the war. A high official says the United States' action is decidedly pressing. It is believed that if the agreement is not ratified America will occupy St. Thomas Island. MAIL CENSORSHIP. Washington, August 18. The British Embassy emphatically denies that the censorship is used to obtain secrets and English air charts.
