The Secretary for War states that early in August Turkish irregulars interfered with reconnoitring steamers on the Euphrates. We, with friendly tribesmen and two gunboats, raided the marauders. A Turkish communique claims that the | British raid on the Euphrates was unsuccessful, and that after four hours they withdrew, abandoning forty killed and wounded.
