The Secretary for War states that early in August Turkish irregulars interfered with reconnoitring steamers on the Euphrates. We, with friendly tribesmen and two gunboats, raided the marauders. Generals Lake and Gorringe have been recalled from Mesopotamia. TURKS CORRECT BRITISH REPORT. Received August 20, 5.5 p.m. Amsterdam, August lfl. A Turkish communique claims that the | British raid on the Euphrates was unsuccessful, and that after four hours they withdrew, abandoning forty killed and wounded.
