A Russian communique states: The <memy on the Zlota Lipa front, westward of 'Podhaise, resumed the offensive with considerable forces. We repulsed the attacks with great losses. We occupied Lysiecstary, upon the west bank of the Bystritza. We occupied a series of heights in the direction of Ardeloz.
We continued om advance in the vicinity of Korozmezo ; and engaged considerable Turkish forces in Persia, in the legion of Kalagasova.
ENEMY POSITIONS CAPTURED. TOBOLY TAKEN. HERCE BATTLES NEAR DIABEKIR. Received August 20, 5.5. p.m. Pctrograd, August 19. A communique states: We captured a portion of the enemy positions west of Lake Nobel, and considerably advanced near Cliernische, on the Stokhod, where we broke the enemy's position, capturing the village of Toboly. Fierce battles j continue in the direction of Diabekir. NEW GERMAN G*AS. i . MAGAZINE RIFLES. Petrograd. August 18. The Germans are using a new invisible gas, the only warning being a sicklysweet smell, causing a dizziness. They are also using a simple magazine enabling a rifle to Are twenty-five shots without re-loading.
RUSSIAN RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION, i BY AUSTRO-GERMAN PRISONERS. Received August 19, 5.15 p.m. Copenhagen, August 18. The Russians are employing AustroGeiman prisoners in the rapid construction of the railway linking Alexandrovsk and Kola, northern ice free ports, with Petrograd. (Kola wa3 formerly the capital of the Russian Lapp Peninsula, at the head of the Gulf of Kola, but was superseded as capital by the new port of Alexandrovsk in 1899). Correspondents at Lcmberg describe the Austrian troops and population as frantic with joy in welcoming the Turkish sailors and soldiers. A GERMAN REPORT. Received August 20, 11 p.m. London, August 20. A Germar. communique reports that Russian attacks west of Lake Nobel were (■ompletely driven back. Austro-Germans iitormed Magurasill, north of Capul, in the Carpathians, taking 600 prisoners. Our counter-attacks east and south of Fiorina continue to be successful.
