REDUCTION OF PRIZE MOSEY.

Australian-N.Z. Cable Association. Sydney, August 17. At the annua] meeting of the Ausiialinn Jockey Club >t was announced that last year the prize money was reduced nearly £OOOO in order to provide a larger sum for patriotic purposes. H would be further reduced ibis year. The chairman said the Club'took the attitude that the curtailment of racing in war time was a question primarily for tho Government, not the club. If the Government took the matter in hand ami treated everybody alike there would be 110 objection on the part of the registered clubs, but the Club was not inclined to curtail the racing of registered clubs unless the pruning knife was applied, all round and the racing of unregistered clubs also curtailed. He stated that tile Jockey Club's admission money was ,£3OOO more than in the previous- year, in spite of the. war, wliereas tiiey anticipated a reduction of 20 per cent. Besides the. £4ijoo in hand, it was proposed to give £IO,OOO to the 'Patriotic funds in the comins veftr 4 ."
