NINTH ANNUAL MEETING?. The ninth annual meeting of the Tariki Dairy Company was lipid in the lariki iPublic hall on Wednesday night, Mr. J. Knowles (chairman of directors) presiding over a good attendance of suppliers. REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET.
The report <showed that cheese was made from September Ist, 1015. to May 27th, 1916, amounting to 171 tons locwfc lqr. Butter was made during the remainder of the year, amounting to * tons 13cwt. 2qrs 101b. Advances had been made for cheese making period at 13d per lb of butter-fat, and out of the surplus of £3574 0s the directors proposed' to pay another Gd per lb over that period—£3742 2s 6d, to utilise £IOO as hereafter suggested, and to carry the balance forward. The directors had installed a regenerative pasteurising plant. °
Statistics were submitted as follows: Cheese making period—Milk received, 3,071,8081b, butter-fat 149,035, dieese 384,745, average test 4.08, lbs of milk to lib cheese 9.54, payment, including bonus, Is 7<l pel lb oE butter-fat. '
Butter-making period.—Milk received 216,0231b, butter-fat 9.1641b, butter made 10,498, average test 4.24, lbs of milk to lib butter 20.fi, lbs of milk to lib butterfat 1.14, payment, Is 2d per lb of butterfat.
The balance-sheet showed receipts to have been £15.147 ISs 7d (cheese £13,9G1 7s 2d, butter £727 Ss Id, whey cream £459 3s 4d). There had been paid out to suppliers £Bfi47 los. The principal items of expenditure were:— Wages £597 5s fld, fuel £172 lis Oil, requisites £454 9s 7<l, export charges £872 14s lid, depreciation £205. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman pointed out that despite the increased cost of materials, wages, etc., the cost of manufacture had decreased as compared with the previous year' from 7s 3y 2 d to Os llV4d. This was entirely due to the increased output, viz., 170% tons, as against 132 tons, and he added that .the cost would be considerably reduced if the output could be brought back to 257 tons, as it wa3 the first year the factory was established, when the cost of manufacture was a* low as 4s 2d. They did ;not manufacture as much cheese to the pound of butter-fat as previously. Owing to the fairy hot weather, the milk ivas of tlie worst quality they had handled since the first year the factory was started. He congratulated suppliers on the record pay out, which was due to, the unfortunate war. It was more than I probable that the Imperial Government would purchase their output. If «o it would allow, the directors to pay out more each, month, as the returns would .'lot- be so Uncertain. The motion for adoption was seconded by Mr. A. E. Laurence, and carried without discussion. ELECTION OP DIRECTORS. For the two vacancies caused by the retirement of Messrs J. Knowlcs ami J). Hwan.son, there were three nominations, Messrs E. Jones, YV. It. Robinson and Trewin. Neither of the retiring directors sought re-election, Mr. Knowles, who lias been chairman for the past nine years, stating that lie did not see how

Robinson 34, Mr. L. M. Monteath was re-appointed mditor. ■ GENERAL. ; Mr. W. 'H. "Robinson was elected the company's representative on the Stratronl Patriotic Committee. Mr. Chapman considered the company should recognise the services Tendered by tile chairman of directors in the interests of the company. He moved that he be paid an honorarium of £25. This lapse.! for want of a seconder, as did also a resolution by Mr. Mucker that the directors .-cceive an honorarium of £3 3s for their past year's services. A vote of thanks was accorded the retiring directors. On the motion of Messrs W. V. Harkness and Trewin a hearty vote of thanks wa? accorded the manager and staff, the mover stating that a vote of thanks was rather an empty thing, as he considered that in Mr. McElroy they hud the best manager in the Dominion,—(Applause). The chairman drew the attention of suppliers to the necessity of saving veils in view of the probable scarcity of rennet. The manager, he said, intended experimenting with the manufacture of rennet. j.
