ENEMY FORCED TO RETIRE. HEIGHTS CAPTURED BY RUSSIANS. Petrograd, August 10. A Russian communique says: We occupied some places west of the Zlota Lipa, (he cnomv by counter-attacks checking a further advance. Our troops are fighting forward between the mouth of the lilota Lipa and the Dniester. Despite desperate resistance we occupied two towns upon the Bvstritza. Our pressure in the Delatyn and Voroksta regions is < compelling the enemy to retire westward. We captured a series of heights and frustrated enemy attempts to reuume tlie offensive in the region of 'vapul mountains. BRUSSILOFF'S CAPTURES. FALL OF LEMBERG CERTAIN. ■ Petrograd, August 10. Official: tfrussiloff's generals from ■ tunc 4 to August 12 have captured 7737 officers, 300,5-15 men, 400 cannon, and \32G machine-guns. London, August IG. Mr Hamilton Fvffe, correspondent on the Russian front, states that officers 'vho have been taken say that the staff is discussing peace terms. They think that, failing success by spring. Germany will offer to restore the occupied territory and possibly pay an indemnity, but if the Allies agree -to the terms Germany will start preparing for another war. Austria is now only able to hold a far back defensive line, and the fall of Leaiberg is regarded as certain. ENEMY OFFENSIVES FRUSTRATED. Received August 17, 7.15 p.m. Petrograd, August 17. A communique reports that there are •c changes on the European front offensive. Several enemy detachments at Karalposava and the region south-east of Lake Urunia, were frustrated. RUSSKY SUCCEEDS KUROPATKIN. Received August 17, 11.5 p.m. Petrograd, August 17. General Russky has been appointed xmimandei'-in-chief of the northern armies, in succession to General Kuropatkin.
