The general store had had a successful year; the turnover showing a very considerable increase over that of any previous year. .The net profit of £5Ol 17s Id would allow of a rebate of S per cent, to suppliers and their share-milkers on the whole of their purchases with the exception of butter and cheese.

CHAIRMAN'S REMARKS.
| The chairman, in formally moving the I adoption of the report and balance-sheet, congratulated the shareholders upon having had a successful season with regard i to the quantity, price, and quality of the | product manufactured. The quantity of milk received during last season constituted a record for 'the factory, 'being 100 tons more than for the previous year. As to quality of the cheese, he said,'taking into consideration that only 12 cans were returned during the, whole season, and that a lot of the milk, taken in left much to be desired, the manager was to be complimented on the fact that, there had been only 5t per cent, of second grade stuff made. It wou]d also be noticed that the yield, 2.67, taking into consideration the high test, was also exceptionally good. Referring to the amalgamation of the South Taranaki, Waikato and the Dimock Bacon Factories, he thought it was a good scheme, as it would save a good deal of overlap- j ping which had previouly existed in tile pig market. He desired to draw the attention of shareholders to the shortage of rennet, and impressed upon suppliers the necessity for saving the calf veil. The directors had agreed to pay 2s 6d for veils; it was> not a matter of money, but of rennet or no rennet. If the factory could not obtain rennet it would mean making butter, which would result in a smaller payout. The fuel account showed an increase compared with that of last year, and this was brought about by the increased cost of material, although it took less fuel to manufacture a ton of cheese than in the previous year. Mr. C. Washer seconded the motion. After one or two minor questions had been answered satisfactorily the motion to adopt the report and balance-sheet, was carried. THE DIRECTORATE, For the vacancies on the directorate Messrs. 15. A. Washer, J. Hickey, and J. W. Snowden were nominated, and the ballot resulted in the return of Messrs. Washer and SnowdenJ The chairman's honorarium was fixed at 3f> guineas. Mr. H. A. Lennon was reappointed auditor. NEW MAKING ROOM. In accordance with notice previously given, Mr. A. Murdoch moved the following resolution: "That the resolution passed at the extraordinary general meeting held on June 20 last be rescinded, and that it be a recommendation to the directors to proceed with the erection of a new making room during the next slack season, or as soon as the directors are of opinion that labor and other conditions warrant their proceeding; with the work." Mr. Willeocks, senr., seconded tha motion. Mr. Hickey said that he was in favor of the erection of a new factory, and was against "patching it up." Mr. Snowdon stated that he had no objection to a new factory being erected.' The chairman also considered that on account of the labor difficulty it would not be judicious to go on with the building at t.he present time. Mr. Murdoch said he believed there would be no difficulty in getting the necessary labor. The motion was carried. RENNET, Mr. Johns referred to the advisablenesa of the company manufacturing its own rennet from calf veils. lie produced a sample bottle of rennet which he had made. He saw no reason why the company could not manufacture its own rennet, which could be done much cheaper than the imported article. About 800 veils would make sufficient rennet to supply the factory for twelve months. Mr. Farley (factory manager) stated that lie had experimented with a sample of rennet made by Mr. Johns with good results. He would like to experiment further on a larger scale with one or two cheeses. Mr. Hickey pointed out that the company had alroady taken shares in a concern which was being formed for the purpose of making rennet. ,No resolution was passed.—Star.
