AN EIGHT DAYS' FIGHT. ANZACS EULOGISED. Cairo, August 14. Mr. Massey, writing on Saturday, Says:—Of tho three Turkish infantry attacks tlie third was the most formidable and impetuous, but, owing to the heavy shrapnel-and steady disciplined fire of the Atizacs, the Turks crept away by moonlight, leaving numerous dead. No doubt the original estimates that the Tu*kg have lost one-third of their effectives have been largely exceeded. The enemy's rapid retreat prevented the employment of a substantial portion of our infantry, but the mounted men were obliged to fight continuously for eight days. This is the finest tribute that _can be paid to the Anzac mounted men, "that thej have borne the heat and burden of eight days'incessant fighting after f. fortnight's constant engagement with .the enemy's ontposts. The unanimous opinion <s that no troops in the world could have fonght better. The Anzacs' training in this barren country has enabled them to endure fatigue which would lhave overwhelmed most men. No troops ■have surpassed their brilliant achievements, which has made Eomani one of *he most important victories in the war. They bore the entire weight of the enemy attacks from the moment when the infantry was compelled to abandon the pursuit almost to the end of the struggle. The Turks were always superior in numbers, but the Anzacs' initia tive and ability were more than a match for large battalions. '
