Simla, August 11 General interest in the war, and strenuous efforts to assist towards the linal victory, grow keener throughout India. Six Indian officers and soldiers have earned the Victoria Cross, and twentyseven the Military Cross. The general trade conditions and crop outlook are satisfactory, .'lute and tea are booming, and cotton has much improved. The relations with the Ameer of Afghanistan are of the most friendly character. He is scrupulously maintaining liis promise of a strict neutrality. Tribes usually restless on the borderland are quieter than they have been for many years.
