Tn the Supreme Court the action Of New-burn, a youth, against the New Zealand Coal and Oil Company, a claim for £2OOO damages for the loss, of both leg* above the knees, the result ot having boon caught in the maohiftery at the Kaitangata mine, was settled for £IOOO and costs'. Wellington, Last Night William David Creamer and. .James Farrelly were each sentenced to two years Vor house-breaking. Frederick Gibbs was also sentenced to two years for theft of £3O from a soldier. By direction of the judge, the jury acquitted James Eceles, who was charged on a private prosecution, with falsely applying a certain trade name to fire extinguishers, as the. facta showed that he lmd no intention to defraud and he had agieod to a perpetual injunction to restrain liirn from selling same. Oscar Padman, charged with indecently assaulting a, little girl, was found guilty of common assault, and sentenced to twelve months' hard labor.
