The Italian victory is assuming increasing importance. The cavalry pursued the Austrians, who abandoned the principal positions on the Isonzo and Carso fronts, showing signs of demoralisation. The Austrians cannot hope to extricate themselves in the Trentino, where the situation is increasingly tragic. THE TOWN OCCUPIED. ( ■ - TRENCHES FULL OF DEAD. COUNTER-ATTACKS REPULSED. Received Augußt 10, 8.25 p.ni London, August 9. An Italian official message states that Gorizia was occupied to-day. Yesterday morning, after intense artillery bombardment, we completed the occupation of the heights westward of the town. The: trenches and dug-outs were found to be full of enemy corpses. At nightfall we rossed the Isonm, consolidating on the left bank. We repulsed counter-attacks on the mmmit of Mount San Michele, and took further trenches at San Martino. The Morning Post's Budapest correspondent states that a recent visitor to G'V'ziii lound the town half :n ruins. Many people were remaining m the town, being determined, after the i Ital'ans entered, to endure the Austrian shell' in the same way as ihey had endured those of the Italians. SECRET OF ITALIAN SUCCESS. ENEMY'S BRAIN AND EYB DESTROYED. A CLEVER SCHEME. Received August 11,1.45 a.m. Mjlan, August 10. Tl Seeolo states that one important secret of the Italians' success was that their artillery directed a terrible fire on the Austrian headquarters' observation posts and military telegraphs over a wide area, including the large hotel within the town, from whence the Austrian artillery was directed. The hotel wag wrecked, thus, in a few hours, -.he enemy's brain and eye were destroyed. MINIMISING THE DEFEAT. ■' Seceievd August 11, 1.30 a.m. London, August 10. An Austrian communique states: Fierce battles at Gorizia continue. A few detachments cf the enemy reached the town. We repulsed Italian attacks at San Michele and San Martino. ITALIAN OFFICIAI REPORT. Received August 10, 5.5 p.m. Rome, August 9. Official: The Austrians were completely routed at Gorizia, which has been abandoned with large quantities of war material. Our cavalry pursued the enemy beyond the Isonzo.
