At nightfall we rossed the Isonm, consolidating on the left bank. We repulsed counter-attacks on the mmmit of Mount San Michele, and took further trenches at San Martino. The Morning Post's Budapest correspondent states that a recent visitor to G'V'ziii lound the town half :n ruins. Many people were remaining m the town, being determined, after the i Ital'ans entered, to endure the Austrian shell' in the same way as ihey had endured those of the Italians. SECRET OF ITALIAN SUCCESS. ENEMY'S BRAIN AND EYB DESTROYED. A CLEVER SCHEME. Received August 11,1.45 a.m. Mjlan, August 10. Tl Seeolo states that one important secret of the Italians' success was that their artillery directed a terrible fire on the Austrian headquarters' observation posts and military telegraphs over a wide area, including the large hotel within the town, from whence the Austrian artillery was directed. An Austrian communique states: Fierce battles at Gorizia continue. A few detachments cf the enemy reached the town. We repulsed Italian attacks at San Michele and San Martino. ITALIAN OFFICIAI REPORT. Received August 10, 5.5 p.m. Rome, August 9. Official: The Austrians were completely routed at Gorizia, which has been abandoned with large quantities of war material. Our cavalry pursued the enemy beyond the Isonzo.
