HIGH COMMISSIONER'S MARKET REPORTThe Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce has received the following cablegram, dated London, August 5, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand. (Note: Quotation's, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot):—
Meat.—There is no material change in '.he market. New Zealand mutton and lamb are in small supply, but there was good supplies of Home-killed mutton and English lamb. The hot weather is cheeking the demand for meat. Argentine beef arrivals are very small, with prices hardening. There is no New Zealand ( ox beef on the market,'and there is a poor'demand for secondary quality New Zealand cow beef. New Zealand mutton, B|d per lb; ewe mutton B}d; Argentine mutton, !)fd; New Zealand lamb 9Jd; Argentine lamb lid; New Zealand bull beef, hinds 51d, fores 4Jd; New Zeaalnd cow beef, hinds 5 9-lGd, fores Argentine chilled beef, hinds 12d, fores Bd.
Butter.—The market closed firm at the advance. Danish, salted, per cwt., lS2s to 190s; Irish creamery, salted 164s to 108s, iinsalted. 100s to 168s; Canadian, salted ICSs to 170s, unsaltcd 170s to 1725; New Zealand, salted 172s to 1765, unsnlted 172s to 17Gs; Argentine, unsaltcd 106s to 168s,
Cheese. —The market is firmer, Canadian, white, per cwt., 92s to 04s, colored 92a to 945, good to fine quality, white 90s to 91s; English Cheddar 102s to 106s j New Zealand stocks are light. White, in small supply, 92s to 935, and occasionally 955; colored 92s to 94a. At August 1 the estimated Canadian and States cheese stocks tit London, Liverpool, and Bristol were 191,000 boxes against 332,000 at same time last year. The estimated New Zealand cheese stocks at London and Bristol were 13,000 crates, against 7250 at same time last year. Hemp.—Manila: The market is firmer on account of speculative operations. There i s 110 trade demand. New Zealand: The market was rather more active during the last few days, and the demand is chiefly for afloat hemp. Government graded fair Manila hemp, per ton, ;£.~>l 10s; good-fair New Zealand £49; fair £47. August-November shipment to United States: Government graded fair Manila £3l; coarse £49 ">s; good-fair New Zealand <MS 10s; fair ,C-I0 lCs. The output of hemp at Manila for the week ended last Saturday was 14,000 bale?.:
Wheat.—'The market is firm, owing to report;: concerning crop damage in American spring wheat belt and Manitoba. Shipment in August; American, (>">s; Canadian 00s; Argentine, afloat, PC's. Oats.— (Mutilated word here), but prices are firm owing to scarcity of offers. Argentine 31s; American 325. Wool.—Merino prices are riominally unilianged, lint the tone of the market is not quite so lirm. Prices have slightly declined for all grades of fine crossbred, but coarser sorts are unchanged.

On Saturday, July 29, wr held a cTenring sale on account of ilr. E. R. Madgewick, Elthiim Road, AV'atuna. The best dairy cows sold at from £l4 to £l6 10s, others £0 to £l3 10s, heifers to £10; At Okinawa yards on Monday we had a very srap.l] yarding of stock, and prices were the same as late sales.
On Monday, July 31, we held a clearsuccessful clearing sale on account of Mr Coslett Johnston, Nornianby, Best dairy cows sold at from £l4 10s to £2O, others £9 5s to £l4, in-calf heifers £S to £lO, the herd averaging £l3 IGs, stove pigs CI 14s to £1 llis, breeding sows £3 7s Gd to £0 10s, horse £3O. On Monday, July 1, we held a clearing sale on account of Mr. E. Tiehbori, Bii'l Road Stiatf**..! '.Hie best daiiy cows sold at from £l4 10s to £l7 as, others £H 10s to £l2 15s, heifers £7 7s (id to £S iis, yearling heifers £4 3s, store pigs 28s, weaners. 10s, sow £0 to £S. The sundries also sold well.
On Tucday, Ist inst.,, at Elthar.i, we held a sale for Mr L. Jenkins, ot in-calf heifers and sundries. The best heifers sold at from £lO to £ll ss. others £G 15s to £9 10s, pigs £1 13s, sundries sold at ruling rates. Kltliam.
