Lloyd George's war anniversary message, said that the Allies were attacking the enemy in perfect unity, and at the moment selected. The enemy would soon see his dream of dominion vanish, and would 'liavc to fall back on every front. SUCCESS CLAIMED ON BOTH SIDES London, August S. A German communique states: —The enemy continues stubborn attacks between Thie.pval and the Somnif. especially at Pozieres and Bazentin-le-Petit. Southward of Maurepas there was bitter hand-to-hand fighting, generally in our favor. We repulsed enemy attacks on the Somme. Two German counter-attacks on Monaeu Farm failed. We stemmed successive strong German attacks on Fleurv and Thiaumont Work There was a heavy bombardment of our rear. Though onr machine-guns caused great losses, the Germans penetrated the Thiaumont Work, after u furious fight, which continues. CARE OF BRITISH GRAVES. Paris, August S.
