The cargo steamer Boonah, which arlived at Wellington on Tuesday from Mew York, is in charge of Captain ,T. K. Davics, why was commander of the Aurora during' the Jlawsou Antarctic expedition and who was also a member of a previous Shackletou expedition. Captain Davics was to take charge of a siiip to go ill quest of Sir Ernest Shackleton when anxiety was felt For the safety of the latter and his party during his present expedition. Questioned eoncernin;; the likelihood of the rescue of the men who were marooned 011 Elephant Island, Captain Da vies said that during the winter, owing to the almost continuous darkness little could he done in the ice, but in summer their rescue would not be beset with difficulties. Providing Captain Wild, who was an experienced mail, was able to secure some sea elephants or seals before the winter set in the position of the party was favorable.
