TENANTS AND GERMINFECTED HOUSES.

DISCUSSED BY MASTER PAINTERS

At a recent mooting of the Wellington Master Painter-,' Association m.iuy interesting subjects relating to the trade were (li.-cu.~sed. Amongst others was tiie inspection of houses. From a health point of view, some employers thought it was against the interests of the trade generally to be called upon to renovate and paper places which have been inhabited by persons who may have been suffering from infectious diseases, probably contracted just before leaving the bouse, and not reported to the Health Department. It was urged that if nn inspector bad to issue a certificate showing that a 'house is lit for habitation anil free from germs, etc., before the landlord can let the same to a tenant, it would protect the tradesmen as well as the public. Some of the speakers also referred to hug-infested places. They considered it was not right that tenant after tenant should be allowed to occupy a bug-infested place and tran-fer in their furniture and belongings the pest from place to place, wherever thov go. Yet this, it was stated, is probably happening, in many instances, without tenants' knowledge, until the damage is done, and another landlord has the pest brought to his property.
