THE EMPIRE.
A. SUPERB LONDON FILM FEATURE TO-NIGHT. "CONVICT LYNDON AT LIBERTY" AND A CHARLES CHAPLIN COMEDY. PROGRAMME COMMENCES AT 7.30. "Convict Lyndon at Liberty" will appeal strongly to photo-plav goers, and will bo certain to show to prowled houses to-night and to-morrow. It is a pleasant story of social life anion;: men and women of culture and refinement whost postion is such that thej have no need to care for the morrow But into the circle conies a surprise, and Dr. Lyndon, a brilliant chemist, employed in'the War Ofiice, finds himself in convict's garb, eating his heart out in Dartmoor Prison. The sweet English girl whom he loves is left desolate, because a German spy, who is posing as a patriotic Englishman, commits an amazing pcrjurt. Dr. Lyndon escapes from prison, and Fate guide's him to a lonely house occupied by members of the German Secret Society. This is unknown to Dr. Lyndon, and lie is nursed hack to life by Sonia Savaroff, a beautiful intriguer. As the story progresses, it shows that Dr. Lyndon is the inventor if a new explosive which the German -eeret agents are determined to obtain. Dr. Lyndon is ottered a passage to a •leutral country and a large sum of nonoy for the formula; lie accepts the crms. not knowing that he is dealing with spies. At this point Sonia Sava.•oft' develops a wild jealousy; she has liscovered a letter written to Neil Lyndon by Joyce Aylmer, his sweetheart. She betrays the convict's hiding place to the police, at the same time informing Lyndon with whom he was dealing, he therefore refuses to sell except to the British Government Then the fight begins, and Lyndon is in a tight corner, but the timely arrival of the police turns the tallies. The play lias a conventional ending, hut it leaves a wholesome feeling, and a bijjief in the goodness of life. The London Film Company has not produced anytliini belter. In addition to the London Film feature the management will again screen the screaming "Umpiiii' comedy ''T.'.Uio's I'miotured Romance" for to-night only. The musical programme will be in the hands of the Empire Symphony Orchestra, a combination of musicians who are fa mous throughout the province. Seats may be reserved , at Collier's without extra charge.
