Additional war regulations have been gazetted exempting soldiers of Expeditionary Forces from arrest 011 civil process or under the. Destitute Persons Act. —Press Association.
During last month (July) there were 40 births 10 marriages, and 10 deaths ill the New Plymouth district. The figures for the corresponding month of last year were 44, C, and 11 respectively. At last night's meeting of the Pukekura Park Hoard, notification was received from Messrs Wilson & Grey that the late Ill's. Ann Tltilke bad made a bequest of £IOO to the Park, The quantity of butter at the various gazetted grading stores in the Dominion on July 31 was 20,003 boxes. The total last year was 11.291 boxes, and in the previous year 22,044 boxes.
The vital statistics for Tlawera for July were: Births 23. deaths 7, marriages ;>. The figures for the corresponding month of 191.") were: Births '22, deaths 3, marriages. 6. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., wish to draw the special attention of the public to the clearing sale they are holding on account, of Mr. A. D. Blick, of Opunake Road, Stratford, to-morrow (Thursday), at 1 o'clock sharp. There will be offered at, the sale some very fine oak furniture, designed and made specially for Mr. Blick. Mr. R. Hughes 'lias compiled a complete history of Pukckura Park, anil at the Board's meeting last night lit handed ovor the manuscript. The members expressed pleasure at receiving such an interest document, wliieli, it is hoped, will shortly be published.
The Pnkekura Park Board has decided to take over the boats 011 the lake from Mr. Webber, and in future these will be under the control of the Board. The children's boat is also to be hauled up and examined, and, if found to bo unsafe, will be burned.

New Zealand products enteral for export last week were valued as follows: —Butter £ 15,943, cheese £".57,241, frozen lamb £100.024, frozen mutton £&().- 902, frozen beef, etc., £40,542, gold £4-258, grain and pulse £503, hides and skins £50,179, kauri gum £l3/280, flax and tow £4S,2SO, tallow £3l/257, timber £10.589, wool £477,581; total, £947,272.
A Tarnnaki resident who has just returned from Australia .states that lie was very much struck with the paucity of New Zealand news appearing in the Australian papers. During his stay of over a month he only read one paragraph with reference to New Zealand, and that, strange to say, was a two line paragraph in regard to the Xew Plymouth fire.
At (lio Hawera S.Af. Court yesterday, tlic Magistrate (Mr Haseldcui gave liis reserved decijion in the sheep-worrying (■use, Oswald Ilawken agninst Thomas Saywell and Xgahopa Robinson. After reviewing the eases hearing on the subject, his Worship held that it was not reasonable to infer that because the dogs were seen amongst the sheep, therefore they had done the damage that resulted from worrying some days hefore this. He accordingly non-suited plaintiff, but without costs. Mr. Spratt appeared for the plaintiff and Mr. O'Dea for both defendants.
At the valedictory proceedings on the occasion of the last meeting of the Wanganui Education Board as lately constituted, Mr. Dixon said the people at his end of the district (Hawera) felt strongly about the severance of a portion of the district. If it had not been for the altered boundaries he believed that a majority of the members would have been candidates for election at the last poll. All were satisfied it was a wrong move.
fi. M. Harvey applied at the Hawera 'S.M. Court yesterday for a rehearing of the grazing ease brought against him by K. I'erousnn. for damages for the loss of 12 heifers, which defendant had agreed to agist, and in which judgment had been given for plaintiff Ferguson for ,CtO and costs. The Magistrate dismissed tiie application for a re-hearing, with two guineas costs against the defendant. Mr. O'Dea appeared for the plaintiff Ferguson, and Mi. Powell for defendant Harvey in support of the application.
The annual meeting of the Xgamotu Seaside Committee will be held in the Town Hall 011 Thursday evening next, and a large attendance is looked for. Various projects for the improvement of this beautiful seaside resort have been under consideration for some time, and town residents will, on Thursday, have an opportunity of giving their opinions on the several proposals. Mr. Davidge's plan for permanently improving the whole foreshore will be 011 view nt the meeting.
At the Tlawera S."M. Court yesterday three prosecutions under 1!io Sale of Food and Drugs Aft wore beard. One charge was against J. P. Keen, baker, for soiling broad under weight. Tim .Magistrate, taking into consideration tliat it was defendant's first offence, im posed a penalty of 10s and costs, ,T. Champion (represented jy .Mr. Sprattl and A. Robertson (represented by Mr. O'Dea) were each convicted and lined £2 'and costs for selling milk containing water. Both defendants obtained mill; for their ton'n supply from outside sources. The Magistrate commented on tile frciicr.il good quality of tile milk supplied in Hawora.

A company (styled the Taranaki Motors, Ltd.) has been formed with headquarters in Eltliam to undertake motor engineering work on a big scale. It has purchased Mr. Ira Bridget's business, and installed a plant which is second to none between Wellington and Auckland. The plant includes a huge modern lathe, a smaller lathe, a drill, "squarer,'' a milling machine, acetone welding plant, electric dynamo plant, etc. The idea is to cater for the motor and electrical trade of the province, a great deal of which is now done elsewhere. The company lias {also acquired the freight carrying interests in South Taranaki of the Taranaki Motor Transport Co., Ltd., and propose to cater fully for the carrying trade of (he distrief.
