TARANAKI WOOL. SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW HALES. MR. NEWTON KING'S REPORT. On Tuesday, July 25, at my sale of the above, I catalogued 44 bales and 112 sacks of wool, 12' GO sheepskins. 3 casks and 31 tins tallow, 450 hides and 217 calfskins and the usual sundries. Crutchings declined y,d per lb in sympathy with the drop in other eenties. Sheepskins hardly maintained last month's rates, salted lines being most allected. Owing to the weather conditions, hides were in a sloppy state and heavies a. shade easier, while lights hardened y,d. Tallow sold at late rates. LOAN & MERCANTILE CO.'S REPORT. Tlie New Zealand Loan anil Mercantile Co., Ltd. (Stratford branch) report as follows: — At our fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards on the 11th inst. we had a good yarding of sheep and cattle. There wai a good demand for all classes of stock, and we made practically a total clearance at the following prices:—F.M. ; ewes in lamb (poor) 20s to "27s (id, 2-tooth wethers 325, hoggets 19s Gd to 225, fat cows £S 15s to £ll ss, forward cows £7 15s to £S 10s, light cows £5 to £G 10s, 2-year emptj heifers £4 2s Gd to £5 10s, 3-year empty heifers £G os to £7 10s, yearling heifers £2 10s Gd |to £3 15s Gd, yearling steers £4 Is to £4 13s, 3-ycar springing heifers £0 2s fid to £S, 2-year springing heifers £5 15s to £0 10s, dairy cows £lO to £lo 10s. At our Stratford yards on the lltli inst. we held a clearing sale of cows on [account of T. lnglis. Esq. There was a [good attendance of buyers, and cows I met with a good sale. Coed cows £ll Ito £l3 15s, others (with age) £7 10s to £'lo 10s. the 51 cows averaging £lO 3s; in-calf heifers £0 lis, bulls £7 5s to £lO 10s.
On Wednesday, 19th inst., we held a clearing sale on account of C. S. Carle.v, Esq., of Cardiff. There was a large attendance of buyers, and sundries and cows sold well. Prices: Chestnut mare (4 years) £23 10s, black gelding £29 10s, pony £7 15s, hay mare (aged) £l3, pedigree Holstein bull 30 1 /. guineas, grade Holstein bull '£ll 10s, grade yearling bulls £5 10s to £G 2s Gd, Holstein yearling heifers £5, yearling heifers £3 fls Gd, breeding sows (empty) £2 lis to £.3 17s Od, wcaner pigs 9s tid to 14s Od, cows (good) £ll to £l4 10s foi best young cows, aged cows £S to £lO, making a good average for 47 cows of £ll 14s; 2-year in-calf heifers (line) £7 10s. On Friday, 21st inst., we held our usual monthly sale in our Te Wera yards, and we had a good yarding of cattle and sheep. In otir dairy pens we had a good yarding of cows iiml heifers. Dairy cows, on account of J. B. Clcmow, Esq. (wlio is reducing his herd owing to another of liis boys going to the front), made £ll to £l3 10s, ;l-tcuter £8 ss, making a good average of £l2; Jersey heifers (2-yenrs) on account of same vendor £S 7s (Id to £lO, averaging £8 10s; 3-vear springing heifers £7 17s 6d to £!) .is, dairy cows £8 10s to £ll. Our next Stratford sale will be held oil August 8. HIDE AND WOOL SALE.
On Tuesday, 2jth instl, we held on:' usual monthly wool and skin sale. For this time of the year we had a very f;iir catalogue, but owing to the non-at-tendance of one or two buyers, bidding was not brisk. Crutohings showed a decline of all 2d per lb, owing, we understand, to the buyers on account of Japan having their limits stopped. Sheepskins, in sympathy with the decline in London, were slightly easier. Fides wore on a par with the previous sale. AUCKLAND. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:— At Wcstfield fat' stock market on Wednesday beef was penned in extra large numbers and mostly of excellent quality. Bidding was irregulai and prices easier. Choice quality oxen sold to £2 5s per 1001b, others £2 2s to £2 4s; steers sold at from £9 5s to '£2o 103; cows and heifers sold at from £2 to £2 4s for first quality, others £1 17s to £1 19s; cows sold at from £S to £lB 12s 0. Calves were penned in iull numbers and sold at fully last week's prices. Runners sold at from ,£G 10s to £lO 2s Gd, heavy suckers £4 15s to £G 15s, medium suckers £3 2s (id to £4 12s fid, light suckers £1 15s to £2 18s, small and fresh-dropped 4s to £1 10s. Sheep were yarded in average numbers and improved in prices from Is Gd to 2s Gd a head. Best wethers sold at from £1 Ids Gd to £2 Gs lid, others £1 lis Od to £1 IDs, best ewes £1 12s to £1 15s 9d, others £1 7s to £1 lis Gd, hoggets (in average numbers) £1 3s to £1 10a Gd. Pigs were penned in average numbers, and sold at improved prices. No choppers or heavy baconers were yarded. Medium baconers £3 7s to £3 19s, light baconers £3 to £3 Gs, heavy porkers £2 17s to £3 9s, medium porkers £2 5s to £2 16s, light porkers £1 18s to £2 4s, suckers 1-ls to ISs, slips £1 3s to £1 13s.
