The followingjppointments on school committees were confirmed by the Education Board yesterday:—Mahoe, Mr. H. At yesterday's meeting of the Taranaki Education Board the resignations of Misses Tiplady (Huiakama) and, Berntscn (Waitara) were accepted.

0. Hills, in place of Mr. Colson (resigned) ; Waitui, Mr. C. Mackinder, in place of Mr. R. Hunter (resigned); and Frauklcy, Mr. P. Langman, to complete, tlie committee.

Mr. X. P.. of Hurimoana, tha newly-elected member of the Land Hoard, took his seat for the first time a(j yesterday's meeting of the Board and, was welcomed by tlie chairman and othei; members.

Mr. A. J. Morton, of Hokitika, who has been appointed senior inspector in the. Taranaki education district, will arrive in New Plymouth on Monday evening next. Mr. Whetter, who has been transferred to Napic:', will take up his new, duties on August 8.

Included in the recent lists of casual' ties at the front, among the wounded, is the name of Private K. L. Aitken, whose parents reside at Hamilton, and, •who is a nephew of Mr. Arthur Morton, of Eginont Milage. Private Aiken belonged to the Fifth Reinforcements and was several months at Gallipoli, being there in the machine-gun section, and was one of the last to leave the Peninsula at the evacuation, carrying his gun parts with him.

Inspector Whetter, of the Taranaki Education Board's stall', who is being transferred to Napier, was yesterday presented by the members of the Board with a handsomely framed photographic group of the Board and its stall'. The chairman, after expressing regret at Mr. Whetter'* departure, eulogised his services in assisting to raise the standard of education in the district and paid a tribute to bis tact and courtesy. In reply, Mr. Whetter spoke highly of the teachers under the Board and of the happy relations which existed between the Board and its staff and himself. He added that the ten years he had spent under the Board would always remain a pleasant memory.

At yesterday's meeting of the Toranaki Education Board, the last meeting prior to the new Board taking over the enlarged district, a presentation of an enlarged photographic group of tha members of the Board and its staff, handsomely framed, was made to Mr. G. A. Allium, who lias been a member of the Board for the past thirty years and is not seeking re-election. The chairman spoke in high terms of praise as to -Mr. Adlam's devotion to his duties, and expressed the hope that he would always look back with pleasure on the years he had spent in promoting the cause of education in the district and on tho happy relations which existed between the members of the Board. Mr. Adlara expressed his appreciation of the spirit that prompted the memento, and stated that he felt it only right to give way to younger men.
