The wheat market is firm. Chicago July options 114y g , cents; Senlember, 115% cents. ' Wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom amounts to 2,000,000 quarters; for the Continent, 4.580,000; Atlantic shipments, 708,000; total, Europe 1,1-15,-000, Russia 20,000, India 32,000, Argentine 147.(M1, Australasia I.'iG.OOO. It is estimated that the exportable surpluses from the United Slates, Canada, Australia. Argentina, Tndia and North Africa for the year ending July, 1017, will be 81,000,'00i) quarters. The probable requirements, not including Germany, Aus-tria-Hungary. Turkey and Serbia, will be 74,000,000, but should the war terminate early these four covin rics will require probably 23,000,000, and Holland and' Belgium 2,000,010, ' MONEY MARKET, The banking returns reveal the fact that money is still in abundant supply, there being an improvement in the quarter of over a million. The increase, in the surplus of deposits is £1,353,3*9 in the quarter and £3,071,070 in the year. The present position is that the hanks are holding far more funds than they can prudently employ within the Dominion, but in the face of this the Government proposes to restrict the, use of this surplus, and enforce Unemployment of such funds within the Dominion. These figures point to a continuance of a plentiful supply of money for some time to conic. Our exports for the latest twelve-month are about twelve millions more than our imports, which is a very handsome surplus, and all available indications point to a continuance of a splendid surplus on the trading account. The sheep returns show a nominal decrease of about one per cent., but in all probability the liual returns will not show any decrease, which is highly satisfactory after exporting over 25 per cent, of our (locks, and this is a very important factor in the genera! prosperity of the Dominion.— New Zealand Trade Review.
