STRATFORD.

(From our own Correspondent.}. EG MONT CLUB. Stratford, July 20. One of tlic institutions that Stratford Is proud of is the above club. It was started several years ago by the business people of the town, for the purpose of providing a home for the young men of the town. At that time it was urged at almost every public meeting that there was 110 -place for the young men of the town and district in which to spend their spare hours, but, to-day, the very people who advocated such an institution are conspicuous by their absence, never having given a helping hand, or even placed their names on the roll of membership. However, the club has progressed despite all this, and last evening held its sixth annual meeting, at which the president, Mr. McMahon, look the chair, there being a record attendance of close 011 sixty members. The annual report referred with pride to the fact that 31 of its members were at present serving their King and country, while several others are waiting to be railed up. Four of its members have laid down their lives on the battlefield. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. and the election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: Patron, Captain J. H. Hine, M.l\; president, Mr. <T. Masters; vice-presidents, Rev. Father .Maples, W. Rogers, Rev. C. W. Howard; committee: Messrs R. Masters, X. J. King, H. Wilson, W. McDonald, W. H. Robinson, T. D. Colson, C. I>. Sole, T. Marshall, W. 1). 'Fletcher, J. McMahon, D. P. Sullivan; auditor. Mr. 11. Wilson. \ vote of thanks to the outgoing officers concluded the meeting. Mention must be made of the splendid orchestra formed in connexion with the club, which performs there every Wednesday evening. UNVEILING CEREMONY. Immediately after the annual meeting of the club, the whole of the members adjourned to the large billiard room, where his Worship the Mayor unveiled enlarged photographs of the late Lieut.Colonel Malone and Captain T. P. James, active members of the club, who had taken a keen interest in volunteering, and as soon as war was declared, offered their services and laid down their 1 ives. The Rev. Father Maiplcs and Rev. Ho#iird also added their tribute to the tieparted officers, after which, Mr. J. I'. Richards, on behalf of the relatives of both heroes, feelingly thanked the club for their thoughtfulness in placing a permanent memorial to their late club comrades. GENERAL. The Lowgarth Dairy Company paid out for June milk £1173. and bonus .c:! 2.18. For the 20th inst. the company are paying to its suppliers for July milk .C23fi, and bonus .€l7ll. Twenty-five members of the Stratford A. and P. Association left by the mail train this morning 011 a visit to the Moumahaki State Farm. An accident occurred near Norfolk Road last evening. It appears that Mr. Stanley Parker was motor cycling to Inglewood and collided with a wagon and horses, with the result that he sustained serious injuries. A motor ear appeared 011 the scene, and conveyed the injured man to Inglewood, where medical attention was soon obtained, the patient being subsequently removed to his parents' resilience. Ihe cycle was badly knocked about, while one of the horses sustained injuries. It is stated that the absence of lights by one of the parties was the cause of the accident.
