rrxoArtEHU. (From Our Own Correspondents). With so many farewells to departing soldiers it is obvious that some oi' them may not be reported, but a very important function recently held here deserves publicity, this being a public welcome to Troopers Plym and T. licynolds ami a farewell to Trooper Layman, who goes to the front with the Fifteenths, and I'rivatc Amos, who lias done his "bit'' in Gallipoli, and goes Home munitionmaking, as owing to shell effects his lungs arc not so strong as when he joined. Unfortunately heavy rain Tell during the evening,.but it did not prevent the hall being crowded with tricilds of the four troopers. Mr. W. Guild (chairman), having explained the object 'or which they* had assembled, called upon Mr. M. Fleming to make the presentation, each soldier receiving a handsome wristlet watch and a case of pipes, while Private Amos got a cheque. .Mr, \\, R, Wright having responded for the men, supper was hand" ed round, and, dancing being resumed, a most enjoyable time followed. - . Mild weather has been our experience here right through the winter, and cows arc looking well, and there is plenty of feed everywhere. .Some of our settlers have milked right through tin- winter, and the cream cart has been running all the time. Cows are beginning to come in again now, so we, •vill all be bllsy soon. there have been u few changes here during the hist few nn,nths.| .Messrs Hartley and Cheshire luve bought Mr. U iison s farm and arc going- to milk on if this coming season. Mr. L. .f. Unwell has sold his farm and intends leaving the district in a few day s time. At a well-attended meeting it was decided to give a farewell social to Mr. and Mi's. Roweli on Monduv nignt. Mr. and Mrs. Powcil are among the earliest settlers. Thev have always been willing helpers, and' they will be very much missed. They arc peoiile we can ill-all'ord to lose. i TXILXUI. '(From a Correspondent.) O n Wednesday, July 1!). the W,C.T.I", held their monthly meeting at Mrs. A. il. .Smith's residence. There was a good attendance, the chair being taken by the rice-president. Mrs. A. J. .Smith. ' The Inion bad already proposed to form a l.oyal Temperance Legion, and it was decided at this meeting to ask Mrs. Duxfield to give a meeting to the adults on Friday evening. August 11, in the Urenui Town Hull. Mrs. Sowr.v was 'decled convenor. Mrs. Howe kindly offered the L'uion the use of her sittingroom wheneve, required. The next meeting will be held at her residence, "Xgaliawn. House," the third Wednesday in August. Purity literature was distributed among the members. 'Jthcr business was done and the meeting closed, after "which tea and refreshments' were provided by M>' s . Smith.
