GENERA!! SMUTS' REPORT". GOOD PROGRESS MADE. Wellington, July 20. The High Commissioner reports under date July 19 (2.15 p.m.):— General Smuts, on the 18th, reported that the enemy forces which endeavored to operate against our communications northward of Handeni and Usauibara railway have now been driven down the Pangani riveij, abandoning a field gun. The clearance*)! this area and Agrogrep is progressing satisfactorily. On the southern slujre of Lake Victoria Xyanxa a force under Brigadier Sir C. Crewe disembarked at Muanza on the night of Friday, and the enemy evacuated the town after slight resistance, leaving rifles, a portion of a supply column, and a gun from the Konigsberg. The majority of the German- Europeans embarked on a steamship and fled southwards by Stulilmann Sound, pursued by armed lake vessels.
