At the Magistrate's Court, .Tame* Clark was committed for trial at Hamilton on the charge of committing a serious offence against a boy. The evidence of the parents, Dr. Mac Knight and Constable Acheson was taken. Bail was allowed in two sureties of £250 and self £250. ALLEGED SEDITIOUS PUBLICATION 1 Palmerston North, July 17. At court this morning u charge of alleged seditious publication was preferred against P. C. Fretli, editor of i the Manawatu Daily Times, for publishing a letter signed "Shirker," which wa* alleged to contain mutter indicating (i. loyalty and to be likely to lnterti-tc with recruiting. Counsel for the Crown said he wanted to disavow any suggestion of disloyalty on the part of Ereelh or the managemciit. The letter was taken exception to, however, as it contained sentiments verging on rank sedition. The defence admitted publication, and said it was published in order to "slate" it editorially. Judgment was reserved.
