THE TRONES WOOD ATTACK.

SENSATIONAL INCIDENTS. AIRMEN SURPASS RECORDS. Received July 17, 0.35 p.m. London, July 16. Mr. Beadi Thomas, describing the Trones Wood struggle, says duels were fought in which botli combatants died together, each being pierced by the other's weapon. Snipers fell with a clatter from the upper part of the trees, and lie suspended across the lower brandies. Our airmen's evolutions surpass all records. It has become their habit to swoop down at dawn within two or three hundred yards of the enemy guns and close to the enemy infantry. The airmen now co-operate with out infantry # and cavalry, besides doing special work in the eye 3 of the artillery. » GRIM EPISODES. WEST KENTS RELEASED Received July 17, * p.m. London, July 16. Mr. Philip Gibbs says the Germans dropped high explosives through the '■aked trees at Trones Wood, opening great craters in which our men afterwards took refuge. The wounded crawled backwards from one shell hole to another, and the unwounded crawled forward in the same way, keeping theirs bombs ready. They thus captured the wood. A queer miracle happened when a number of dirty, evil-looking English Noys crawled out of the holes ahead and thouted "Hallo, lads!" Others sobbed, big tears rolling down their grimy faces. These were 300 of the West Kents with one officer, who had been Isolated by a barrage of fire.
