RAILWAY STRIKE IN MADRID. By Cable.—Press Association—Copyright Madrid, July 14. Over seventy per cent, of the railwaymen have struck for increased pay, and the whole traffic has been stopped and martial law lias been proclaimed in the town and province of Madrid. Parliament has been prorogued owing to the grave situation. A general strike is announced for the sixteenth. DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE. Athens, July 14. The forest of Tattoi is burning. The fire lios spread to the Royal chateau ,and the adjoining barracks, causing several deaths, including officers. The Royal family -have taken refuge at ICapsissia. "SOME HEAT" IN AMERICA. New York, July 14, There is a great heat wave in New York. Eight deaths have taken place there and at Boston, and many aie prostrated. Great crowds are camping on the beaches. Sharks are in abundance at the watering places, and four bathers, at various places, have been devoured. • It is stated that the deatli-rate from infantile paralyses is «ne h»urly.
