The death occurred on Wednesday of a 1 ivcll-known Pihania settler, Mr. John William Duffy, at the ripe age of 78 years. Deceased leaves a wife and i'yMr. David Nairn died at his residence in Christchurch on Friday night, aged 82. Deceased, who was a well-known seedsman, came to the Dominion in 1805 from Fifeshire, and took up horticulture, later establishing the business which is known throughout New Zealand. Mr. H. S. Symons, accountant at the Stratford branch of the Bank of Australasia for the past two and a half years, has received notice of transfer on promotion to the Bank's Auckland odice, and leaves for the northern city on Tuesday next.Word has been received through the last casualty list that Private R. Mairett, youngest brother of Mrs, W. Curteis, of Mangatoki, was killed in action on June 29th. He was one of the New Plymouth draft of the main body, and originally enlisted in the Ambulance Corps. He came safely through the Oallipoli campaign, was then invalided to Egypt, then to London, and sent back to the firing line.—Argus. The death is announced of Mr. William J. Saunders, of Alfredtown, Wairarapa. The deceased, who was 74 years of age, was one of the pioneer isettlers of the district, and probably 110 man iu the Wellington province was more respected for his hospitality than the late Mr. Saunders. Unostentatious, and never mixing up in public matters, the deceased was ever a man of sterling character, whose purse was ever open to causes that needed assistance, anil whose demise will be regretted by an exceptionally large circle of friends. The deceased, who was married twice, leaves a grown-up family. The death took place at New Tlvmouth on Saturday of Mr. John F. Eustace, a settler of !■'> years standing, who had been living iu New (Plymouth during the past six or seven years. He was engaged in farming pursuits in the Okato district until lie retired and came to New Plmouth. $e took a very active part in seaside improvement, and other matters of local interest, until some two years ago, when his health commenced to fail. Deceased, who was 07 years o! age, is survided by a widow ' and a, family of six sons, Lewis (Pihania), Bert (Waitara), Walter (Okato), R. L. (Oaonui), Frank (Okata), and Cliff | (at the front), and three daughters, , Mrs. J. F. Shepherd (Opunake) and , Misses Ruby and Kate Eustace. ]
